How this comparison is constructed.

Stated up front, because a comparison you cannot audit is a comparison you should not trust.

  • Statements, never scores

    A rating in a table the vendor controls tells you nothing you can check. Each cell states what the platform does, so you can verify it against the vendor's own documentation.

  • Sources shown per cell

    Where a statement rests on published material, the source appears beneath it. Where it does not, a validation marker appears instead — including where the unsourced statement favours STORViX.

  • A real case for the competitor

    Every head-to-head page carries a 'when they are the better fit' section written to be persuasive. If that section is unconvincing, the rest of the page is not trustworthy either.

  • No feature-superiority claims without evidence

    Where two platforms measure something differently — reduction ratios, efficiency guarantees — the page says so rather than putting incomparable figures side by side.

Validation status

Of 77 statements in the matrix, 22 rest on reasonable characterisation rather than a citable published source. Each is visibly marked in the table below.

Competitor capability statements are drawn from public product documentation and named industry reporting. Nothing here should be quoted to a customer as a STORViX-verified fact until it has been through validation.

TCO and ROI

The assumption that decides the answer.

Most storage TCO comparisons are decided before any product is compared, by the refresh assumption baked into the model.

A model built on a three-year refresh cadence and a model built on a seven-to-ten-year service life will produce different winners from the same product data. Neither is dishonest; they answer different questions.

So the useful first step is to make the assumption explicit and agree it before comparing anything. Then add the variables that actually move the number for your estate.

Variables worth modelling

  • Refresh cadence over the full horizon — the single largest lever
  • Your actual hot-to-cold capacity split, before comparing price per terabyte
  • Achieved data reduction on your data, not a vendor's guarantee
  • Number of distinct platforms and management models in the estate
  • Existing skills, and the transition cost of moving away from them
  • Migration effort per refresh, including risk and downtime
  • Support tier and the escalation load your team would carry
  • Rack, power and cooling per usable petabyte

No TCO figure is published on this site. A number without your capacity curve, funding model and refresh assumption behind it would be marketing, not analysis.
