The situation
Noventum considered upgrading its legacy IT equipment but found the costs outweighed the potential benefits. The company therefore decided to explore new equipment from a different vendor, to assess whether it could offer a better return on investment and meet the company's requirements more closely.
One challenge was the handling of Hyper-V virtual disks: cluster switching took too long and ate up valuable time. Another time-consuming task was provisioning multi-tenant storage accurately. Because that took time, the extra effort to provision properly was not always made, and unnecessary inefficiencies were the result.
What was deployed
STORViX provided a six-month trial of an AiRE IntelligentFiler model 3122, so Noventum could assess its suitability for the company's requirements. At the heart of the solution is AiRE, the software that powers the complete IntelligentFiler: its features safeguard against corruption, disasters and data breaches, and it keeps performance optimal through automated I/O path management, application profile recognition and efficient data reduction.
What changed
With AiRE IntelligentFiler, the wait when a virtual machine moved between two servers was cut from minutes to just seconds. That saved time and helped Noventum serve its clients faster and more efficiently. With full multi-tenancy and elastic provisioning, the company no longer had to choose between spending too much time on provisioning and suffering the inefficiencies of not getting it exactly right, which led to significant gains in resource optimisation.
Given these performance improvements and the added value, Noventum moved forward with AiRE IntelligentFiler into full production. The transition was far easier than expected: the system was so straightforward that configuring it for full production use took less than an hour.
