Sub-millisecond latency for a cloud provider's most demanding tenant.

An Italian cloud and managed security provider serving more than 2,000 companies put Zerto-replicated customer VMs on all-flash AiRE with a hard latency ceiling.

The challenge

Hot copies of customer VMs had to stay available around the clock through Zerto replication, with a hard sub-millisecond latency ceiling for a key account.

The solution

AiRE 3258 and an all-flash 3282, integrated with Zerto, on FlexiPay with a SmartCARE plan and maximum compression enabled.

The situation

Eteria provides cloud services and managed security to more than 2,000 companies in Italy. Part of that service is keeping hot copies of customer virtual machines available around the clock, replicated with Zerto, so that a failover is a decision rather than a recovery project.

One key account came with a hard requirement: maximum storage latency below one millisecond, sustained, on the replicated copies. The platform also had to make commercial sense for a provider whose margins depend on how much tenant data each unit of capacity can carry.

What was deployed

Two AiRE systems were deployed: a 3258 for the general tenant estate and an all-flash 3282 for the latency-bound workload, both integrated with Zerto for the replication layer. Maximum compression was enabled across the data sets.

The systems run on FlexiPay with a SmartCARE support plan, so Eteria carries them as a monthly operating cost with support included rather than as capital equipment.

What changed

The all-flash tier delivered sub-millisecond maximum latency for the key account. Compression halved the capacity the tenant data consumed, and Eteria reports saving at least 50 per cent on the investment compared with the alternative it evaluated.

Results

What was measured afterwards

  • Sub-millisecond maximum latency achieved
  • Compression factor of 2
  • At least 50% saved on the investment

Agile storage: from terabytes to petabytes in seconds.

The Department of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at Ghent University needed to archive simulation data that must outlast the research, on storage its scientists could grow themselves.

    • Scales from a few terabytes to petabytes in seconds, with no RAID rebuild to wait for
    • Researchers provision file systems themselves, without IT expertise
    • Up and running with no manual, no training and no support call

Nightly backups ten times faster, on a VMware cluster that could finally grow.

A Swedish IT and telecom services provider replaced ageing legacy storage with an AiRE 3122 as primary storage for a new VMware cluster.

    • Nightly backups 10× faster than the previous legacy solution
    • 3× compression factor, cutting capacity utilisation
    • Up to 60% lower monthly cost
