The situation
In an era where data has become a company's most valuable asset, Birra Castello faced the crucial challenge of guaranteeing the integrity and availability of its information. The brewery, a rapidly growing company, had to ensure the security, integrity and availability of its data. It already used backup as a service from the managed IT service provider Alma Pro, with Veeam backup software, and wanted to strengthen those Veeam backups for optimal data protection.
Birra Castello also aimed to guarantee the consistency and availability of the backup images on its IT servers, to meet potential new demands and to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances.
What was deployed
Alma Pro built on Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5, which offers hyper-availability for virtual, physical and cloud-based workloads, supports VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, and outperforms legacy backup systems. To fortify the data protection strategy further, Birra Castello added off-site replication through Alma Pro's managed services, so a secure copy of the data exists for disaster recovery scenarios.
Alma Pro had positive experience with AiRE IntelligentFiler in its own internal processes and recognised its potential for building robust managed IT services, especially for data protection. It recommended AiRE to Birra Castello, and the collaboration between STORViX and Alma Pro resulted in an AiRE IntelligentFiler model 3124 that receives the Veeam backups locally. The system provides continuous protection from corruption, disasters and breaches, with automated I/O path management, application profile recognition and data reduction keeping performance optimal, and it ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Birra Castello's business data.
What changed
Birra Castello appreciated the agility of the AiRE system, which allowed a quick and straightforward implementation. Unlike more time-consuming setups, the entire system was up and running within a few hours of delivery. The ease of integration let Birra Castello's IT team use the system effectively right out of the box, and the first off-site copy was sent promptly.
AiRE's corruption immunity provides full source-and-target consistency in the file system. Together with off-site replication, this proved instrumental in enhancing what the Veeam software delivers, so Birra Castello extracts maximum value from the solution. The collaborative effort of Alma Pro and STORViX resulted in a tailored solution that not only met but exceeded Birra Castello's data security, integrity and availability requirements.
About Birra Castello
Birra Castello S.p.A. is an Italian brewery founded in 1997, when it took over the premises in San Giorgio di Nogaro in north-eastern Italy previously owned by Birra Moretti and Heineken Italia. In 2006 the company also took over the historic Pedavena brewery, founded in 1897 by the three Luciani brothers. That brewery grew slowly, was robbed of its copper and partially burned down by invading Austrian forces in the First World War, was quickly rebuilt, and saw its glory days after the Second World War before becoming part of the Heineken Group from 1974 until Birra Castello acquired it in 2006.
Birra Castello produces an assortment of beers with varying tastes and owns the Spoken, Kiefer, Alpen, Axt Bier and Birra Dolomiti brands, as well as Birra Italia in the hotel, restaurant and catering trade. It also produces non-alcoholic beer.
